My Dogs

I believe in supporting the rescue and adoption of dogs, instead of "buying" them from a pet store or back yard breeder. Our animal shelters are overflowing with pets that were, more often than not, an impulse buy. Too many animals are euthanized because of this. Please meet my "Lasqueti Dogs", in order, first 3 photos.

Nahla - Shepherd/Malamute, born feral in Northern Saskatchewan on a reserve, was found under some steps after her mother was shot. I was blessed to be able to adopt her and bring her to our mountain when she was 7 weeks old.

Bear - Husky/Collie, born in the Northwest Territories, was found with his siblings at 3 weeks old when their feral mother abandoned them. A good samaritan found the litter and took them to a nearby shelter. The litter was transferred to Victoria and at 6 weeks I adopted Bear and brought him to Lasqueti.

Baloo - Corgi/Shepherd/Retriever, born in California, his mother and littermates were found between two dumpsters. The mother was not afraid of humans, so she probably was abandoned, not feral. The whole group, mother and pups were brought to Victoria by Victoria Adopatables and by chance (fate!) I saw his adoption picture and instantly fell in love. We adopted Baloo before we officially moved full time to Lasqueti and we call him the "Original Boy or #1 Son" as my husband had never owned a dog before Baloo.

Baloo has been our Adventure boy from the beginning. We bought our land in March 2010, adopted Baloo that year in September. Baloo has seen it all, from the raw land to what we have now.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Angellina - Shih Tzu/Maltese, born in a puppy mill, Angellina was my introduction to the horror of the pet store/puppy mill connection. I had Angellina before I met Vaughn and though he professed to never wanting to have a dog when I met him, it didn't take long for him to warm up to her. For a city dog, she took to off grid living like she was born to it. She passed away in 2019, just 3 months after we brought Nahla home.

Sadie - Sheltie, belongs to our neighbors and was adopted within weeks of our bringing Nahla home. Sadie and Nahla became "best friends" and one or the other will take it upon themselves to "go a-visiting".
